News: Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine one last time in Logan, releasing March 3rd. Directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma) and also starring Patrick Stewart and Boyd Holbrook this final chapter of Logan’s journey sees the weary mutant reluctantly protecting a young girl from unknown hostile forces.
Thoughts: This movie looks good! Even if this trailer lacks the panache of the original teaser. Then again, anything with Johnny Cash’s rendition of “Hurt” is a guaranteed hit in my book so its understandable this new preview doesn’t land as hard.
Can you believe its been sixteen years since Hugh Jackman first brought the iconic adamantium infused mutant to the big screen? One of the longest reigns for an actor portraying a single character and while its had its ups and downs I think its safe to say he has done a terrific job with the character and has also shown true respect and appreciation for the role and the opportunities he’s been given.
I am hoping this final appearance is a worthy sendoff for the character and the actor, one that fans everywhere can appreciate and be thankful for and while I have my doubts that adding more blood and making the film R rated will help it achieve that I am sure there are plenty of comic fans hoping to finally see Logan go into a true Berserker Rage on screen, letting his claws fly freely.
I myself would appreciate a film that is more in line with the somber tone presented in the initial trailer for the film, an emotional story with weight and heart and one that explores more realistically the scars and burdens that Logan has been carrying, and a story that allows him to finally shed these burdens and accept who he is and find peace. Luckily we dont have long to wait as the film is nearly upon us, landing March 3rd.
