Today Nintendo began their E3 showing with another Nintendo Direct, this time featuring some of the games that fans have been waiting for, but not exactly the big new surprises that many of us were hoping for. On display were titles that the big N had already announced with not a surprise in the bunch. Though we got trailers showcasing the same classic gameplay we know and love, I truly hope Nintendo has an ace up its sleeve and will come big over the next two days.
Bayonetta 2: Lets start with a game many a hardcore gamer thought they’d never see, Bayonetta 2. Platinum Games in partnership with Nintendo have resurrected the crazy witch along with her even more bizarre world to bring Wii U one of the most insane games of 2014. Featured in the trailer is a new partner for Bayonetta as well, possible co-op? Probably not, but would be cool.
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD: While most of the reveal trailers were for games we’ve known about, here is a trailer for a game you have beaten! Wind Waker looks just as good as you would expect in HD, but this is all the same loveable zelda gameplay we’ve done before.
Mario Kart 8: For the eighth entry in this popular series Nintendo are bringing back the characters you know and love and giving them hover karts. This new mechanic will be partnered with 7’s gliders and boats to make sure every level can be as fast, vertical, and obstacle laden as possible. Also returning from past games are motorbikes and what Nintendo have said will be the most robust multiplayer yet.
Super Mario 3D World: The team that crafted the fantastic Super Mario 3D Land are taking that same winning formula and crafting a new experience for Wii U players. With 4 player co-op, with the return of Peach, this new entry looks be as as imaginative, colorful, and fun as the last entry in the series. Also, it comes with a very weird but oddly cute cat suite…
Super Smash Bros: No doubt the game every Nintendo fan was anxiously waiting to see. The return of Smash Bros. features the same chaotic gameplay as its predecessors but with the shiny new coat of paint that more powerful hardware delivers. While the trailer didn’t show anything particularly new, the arrival of the Villager from Animal Crossing is a cool addition for fans. Halfway through the trailer, when it looks to be done, stick around for the most exciting aspect of the Nintendo Conference.
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: The new Zelda for the 3DS has a finalized name and a new trailer to showcase its retro stylings mixed with the new art mechanic.
Yoshi’s New Island: The new Yohsi’s island has a new name…NEW! Showcasing the homely art style and same Yoshi’s Island gameplay fans love this one looks to be another safe bet for Nintendo. Though i’m not a huge fan myself, I do just love that noise Yoshi makes as he hovers about.
- A new Art Academy will be coming to the Wii U to allow all of those great Tablet artists a new place to shine.
- Titles such as Assassins Creed: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Scribblenauts, Just Dance, Skylanders, Watch Dogs, and Sonic Lost World will be coming to the Wii U as well.
- The Wonderful 101 will feature a five player multiplayer mode to add to its whacky insanity.
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be making its way to the Wii U thanks to the talented team at Retro Studios.
- Pokemon X and Y will be coming to you this October along with Wind Wake HD.
So how do you feel about Nintendo’s first offerings for E3 2013? While these trailers are no doubt fun and will be solid games, I’m still hoping for some surprise announcements such as Metroid, Star Fox, or…anything really!
