So today marks the beginning of the Dark Souls 2 marketing train, with a small trickle of screens and a video demonstration over at IGN. Although Dark Souls 2 was announced at the Spike VGA’s last year, it was only shown off with a CG trailer, lacking any in game footage for fans to drool over. Today that changed with the first real look at the game, and well, it looks a whole lot like Dark Souls. From the cracked and dirty walls of a castle to the pitch black corridors that are sure to hide a creature or two, this is most definitely the sequel to Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls. While this may frustrate some hoping for more of a departure in style, myself and others are still pretty excited. No game developers are out there making a dark old school gothic style title and Dark Souls fit that bill nicely when it released on PS3 and Xbox 360 (and later PC).
While the demonstration didn’t really show off anything new or super exciting it did provide a glimpse at some slightl tweaks to how enemies will react to the player and a new lighting system for torches that are held. The graphics are slightly improved as well. When the title was first announced the team made note to speak about lessening the learning curve that the previous entries had, with a simpler and more friendly tutorial system, while the demo doesn’t give off any information on that aspect of the game, we have to assume that that is still a point of concern for the team, right? Anyway, here is a link to the IGN video demonstration and also shiny screens!
