Crytek after Darksiders?

Now this news makes me happy. After the depressing closure of Vigil Games in the wake of the THQ bankrupty, Crytek, developers of the Crysis franchise, brought some sunlight through the dark clouds for the studio and took in over 35 employees from the company. Crytek also housed the talented workers in a brand new facility in Texas, where Vigil Games had previously made its home. That was several months ago now, and today Crytek has announced that it now plans to make a bid on the Darksiders IP, the same franchise that was oddly shunned when the THQ brands went up for auction.

This morning Crytek CEO David Adams took to Twitter to speak his mind and give hope to Darksiders fans everywhere. “”Going to bid on the Darksiders IP” he wrote ““Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.” He would later confirm this goal with Destructoid saying that after the bid its up to the courts to decide. As a huge fan of Vigil Games and having enjoyed Darksiders 1 & 2 immensely, this is great news! I truly hope that the former employees of Vigil get to see their baby returned to them, even if they do not pursue their hopes of making a Darksiders 3, the franchise belongs with them.

  1. Finally some good news! After some early rumors, I was starting to think that the franchise was dead but that would mean so many great ideas wasted…

  2. Ahh so this is where I read about this! It seems Crytek lost to Nordic Games today, who just bought it for funsies and have no idea what to do with the IP, which is er… great?
