3DS passes 10 Million in Japan

According to Famitsu the Nintendo 3DS handheld has sold over 10 million units in Japan, with 400,000 units sold this holiday season. The holiday spike was due in large part to the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which has been a tremendous hit for Nintendo. If you add in the rest of the world, the 3DS hardware is easily past the 15 million units sold mark to date.

After a rocky start the 3DS hardware has been on an uphill trend of quality titles and new functions and is becoming one of the better options when deciding on a new system. I really enjoyed my 3DS handheld when I had it, with Super Mario 3D Land being one of my favorite games of the past few years. Add in Resident Evil: Revelations, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Zero Escape, Pushmo, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, Metal Gear Snake Eater, Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario Sticker Star and New Super Mario Bros 2 and the 3DS lineup is very strong right now.

Future releases include Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing as well. It may have taken some time, but the 3DS handheld is definitely shaping up to be one of Nintendo’s best systems in some time.

If you have a Nintendo 3DS, how are you enjoying it? Or do any upcoming titles have you interested enough to possibly take the plunge?
